Grant Opportunity from the NYC Dept. of Health & Mental Hygiene:

  • “We are pleased to announce the Active Design in Schools grant opportunity for K-12 Schools in NYC. The goal of this grant is to catalyze active design enhancements in schools to promote physical activity and healthy living among students and the school community. This grant is administered by The Citizens Committee for New York City in collaboration with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene with support from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s Partnerships to Improve Community Health grant. We are awarding 20 grants of $4,000 each to support active design projects in schools.
  • Applications are due Friday, February 12th by 11:59 pm (EST) and must be filled out online.

Charter Hearing

  • Please join CEC1 members at a public hearing to explore the consequences of charter requests for an increase in enrollment and a merger in our district.
  • Details from the hearing notice:
    • “Manhattan Charter School…currently serves approximately 266 students in grades K-5. Manhattan Charter School is requesting an increase in enrollment from 274 students to 290 students. Manhattan Charter School II, a charter school education corporation authorized by SUNY…seeks to merge with Manhattan Charter School, a charter school education corporation authorized by NYCDOE…such that when the merger was approved, Manhattan Charter School II would be the successor education corporation under the name “Manhattan Charter Schools.” Manhattan Charter School would be renamed “Manhattan Charter School” and Manhattan Charter School II would be renamed “Manhattan Charter School 2.”
