Collect Your Capital Requests!

CEC1 has asked Community School District 1 principals to begin collecting their capital requests. This should involve a collaborative process among school leaders, staff, SLT members, PA/PTA members, and other interested community members. The School Construction Authority (SCA) has indicated that it will only accept capital requests for District 1 from the CEC, and not from individual schools. We have asked school leaders to submit requests to us by January 4, 2017.

In developing requests, school communities should look at the 2015-2019 capital plan amendment, the SCA’s response to last year’s D1 capital requests, and the school’s Building Condition Assessment Survey (BCAS). The BCAS can be found online at your school’s portal (http://schools.nyc.gov/SchoolPortals/01/your school (for example: M020)) under Statistics & Budget, and then Building/School Facilities Report.

Members of the SCA will attend CEC1’s January 25th calendar meeting to present a summary of the amendment and solicit public comments. We hope you’ll join us at 6pm at PS 20 for the meeting.

Manhattan Borough President’s Capital Funding Awards

Another source of funding for public school capital projects is now open: the Manhattan Borough President’s Capital Funding Awards for FY 2018.

To increase the likelihood of projects being funded, schools can request the same capital improvements from the BP’s office that they request from the SCA (see above). The BP’s office encourages all groups that apply for capital funding to meet with the BP’s budget staff to discuss the proposed capital project. To schedule a meeting, emailbudget@manhattanbp.nyc.gov.

The application (Manhattan Borough President’s Office City Capital Funding Application) must be submitted through the Borough President’s Grant Portal system. Each organization should only have one account; with your account, you are allowed to submit multiple applications. The deadline is February 14, 2017 for all projects requesting funding from BPs (including those also requesting funding from the City Council).

City entities (public schools, etc.) with questions should contact Debbie Timothy, Capital Budget Analyst, at dtimothy@manhattanbp.nyc.gov.
