Rally Opposing DeVos
The Panel for Educational Policy is holding a Special Calendar Meeting tonight at 5:30 at Tweed to vote on a proposed resolution opposing the confirmation of nominee Betsy DeVos as Secretary of Education of the United States. Join parents and education advocates for a rally on the steps beforehand: 5:00pm outside of 52 Chambers St.
Rally Against Hate
Muslim students make up nearly 10% of school enrollment citywide. Show your support for these students and their families, and for NYC’s vast immigrant population, at a Rally Against Hate at Tompkins Square Park tonight at 6:30.
Pre-K Segregation
Pre-K programs throughout NYC are segregated, and DOE officials say it’s because “families send their students to pre-K’s closest to their home.” But this doesn’t adequately reflect the causes and extent of socio-economic and racial isolation, especially in a small, diverse, choice-based district like ours, where schools blocks apart–even schools that share buildings–have stark enrollment differences.
